Fertilizers

The following is excerpted from the research and writings of Dr. Mark Edwards, one of the world’s foremost authorities on algae.

Algae produce a biomass that, after coproduct extraction, can be used as a natural fertilizer and that is very low in energy production cost. Seaweed has been used as a fertilizer and soil conditioner for centuries. Currently, fertilizers consume huge amounts of energy, typically natural gas and pressure, to extract nitrogen from the air. Nitrogen-fixing algae extract nitrogen from the water and air with only the energy used to mix the algae so that it can get sunshine. Consumers like algae fertilizers because they are all natural.
